When I was little my mom had coffee with her friends at least twice a week.
They went from house to house….taking turns as hostesses.
We kids were along for the ride….the assumption being that we would play and leave the grown-ups alone!!!

These gatherings were the way that women stayed in touch with things.

I can only imagine the isolation of staying at home with little money and lots of kids in mid-century small town America!

“Having Coffee” was a way for these women to get together to exchange recipes, show off their latest decorating and craft projects, commiserate over the challenges of running a house on a budget!

“Having Coffee” was much less formal than “Bridge Club” or “Church Circle”.

The ladies in the movie “The Help” at “Bridge Club”

You didn’t have to pick up the kid’s toys, get out of your “house dress” or even put your make-up on!
You just gathered up the kids and walked to the neighbors house….to “have coffee”!

HMMMMM……”Having Coffee” sounds a LOT like “Blogging” or “Facebooking!

These days….as we try to balance full time jobs, kids, homes and fun, there certainly isn’t time for “having coffee”…..in the old fashioned sense.

But resourceful women will always find a way to “get together to exchange recipes, show off their latest decorating and craft projects, commiserate over the challenges of running a house on a budget!”

Now we can meet all of the same needs as my mother’s generation on our own schedule….and we don’t have to get out of our pajamas, make a coffeecake or clean the house to do it!

I do think it is nice to have friends over once in awhile….and when we do…guess what we talk about?

Yup….the latest cool blogs we are reading

Have a great day…..”have coffee” with some friends!
